As the employment market becomes more competitive, it becomes important for employment seekers to not only know who they are, but also what makes them perform their best, according to their talents, skills, knowledge, interests and education. There are hundreds of different tests (interest tests, vocational tests, personality tests, etc.) which can help you discern better who you are and, thus, help you in your employment search.

Everyone possesses a wealth of talents, skills, and abilities, but very few people have spent the time to categorically assess themselves and determine exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are. Tests act as personal road maps, leading you to these strengths and weaknesses.

The following page explains the contents of a written examination required for Foreign Service Officer candidates. Although this may be more involved than other employment tests, it is a good example of why employers test to help assess the potential of applicants.
