Tobacco Roasting Machine Operator
  • Control temperature, humidity, and pressure gauges, or product to maintain prescribed operating conditions.
  • Put on temperature and time controls, ovens or gas burners, and start equipment, such as conveyors, blowers, driers, or pumps.
  • Open valve, discharge gates, or hopper chute, to load or remove product from oven or equipment.
  • Add or remove product from trays, carts, hoppers, or equipment, using hand, scoop, peel, or shovel.
  • Measure weight of product, using scale hopper or scale conveyor.
  • Observe, feel, or taste products after processing to make sure products conform to standards.
  • Use moisture meter to test product for moisture content.
  • Smooth out product in bin, tray, or conveyor, using rake or shovel.
  • Read work order to determine quantity and type of product to be roasted.
  • Record production data, such as weight and amount of product processed, type of product, and time and temperature of processing.
  • Monitor the operation of machines and notify supervisor of any problem.
  • Push carts to transfer product to storage or for further processing.
  • Take sample of product during or after process for laboratory analysis.
  • Clean equipment, with steam, hot water, and hose.
