Client Description:

Our client’s proprietary technologies allow customers to maximize the effectiveness and success of their research & development programs. Our client applies high-throughput research technologies and research software for customers in the pharmaceutical and related industries. Our client’s technology has a strong ROI case that exploits inefficiencies found in traditional R&D workflow practices. Additionally, our client has a strong existing install base within industry and is well positioned for continued growth. The ultimate benefit to the drug discovery process is enhanced innovation and improved productivity.

Opportunity Statement:

Our client creates value through shared and archived knowledge of R&D workflows, which enrich and retain the intellectual assets of the organization. Our client’s technology increases an R&D client’s effectiveness and speed by integrating high-throughput instrumentation and software that allows users to easily and seamlessly design and automate experiments, and to capture, analyze, and mine data. Additional technologies increase a scientists’ effectiveness by integrating existing compound registries, chemical inventories and predictive, drawing and related informatics tools.

The Sales Director will work within the business development organization and will be responsible for contributing to the revenue pipeline through the sale of platform systems, software, and research services within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets. Candidates should have an entrepreneurial spirit with a desire to make an impact in the organization, while fostering growth.

Responsibilities:

Target/develop business opportunities within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on the US West Coast. The focus will be primarily on positioning and selling Software, Tools and Research Services.

· Create strategic account plans for key/targeted accounts identifying key individuals, initiatives and actions to deliver solution.

· Work with all people involved in the decision process to support proposal justification and submission (from laboratory researchers to senior executives).

· Develop and manage effective professional relationships with prospective clients.

· Articulate the value proposition at multiple levels targeted to the differing needs of business leaders, IT and end users.

· Work closely with the pre-sales team to map out the customer workflow and current operations to quantify the solution impact in the form of a business case justification and/or appropriate ROI model(s).

· Develop/maintain in-depth knowledge of products and services and their practical application to operating challenges faced by organizations on a day-to-day basis.

· Gather and synthesize market feedback on product performance, industry trends, competitive products and strategies for presentation to business development/sales management.

· Maintain and disseminate knowledge of industry best practices related to products and services.


Qualifications

Education/Certifications

An undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Science or an allied technical discipline is strongly preferred. An advanced technical degree or MBA is strongly preferred.

Professional Qualifications

Our client is seeking an acknowledged, successful, sales professional with a minimum of five (5) or more years of experience selling into pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology accounts targeting the US West Coast. Other qualifications will not be considered. The candidate should have an understanding of drug discovery, pre-clinical and process development.

• Outstanding written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required.
