Job description
The Engagement Manager (EM) will work within account and project teams as the focal point for all tactical deployment decisions and schedules, serving to ensure that projects execute on time and budget for the delivery of IBM IP solutions of varying complexity and scale. They will be the primary communication conduit in their engagements between both sales leaders, delivery teams, and the end customer; combining solid organizational and technical skills with tenured business acumen to guarantee delivery success. Further, the EM will provide delivery leadership assistance on a per contract basis, as required by their Delivery Manager, mainly focused on contractual fulfillment, issue resolution, basic reporting and financial management as well as CSAT and overall delivery excellence.
The customer focus for the EM position will range from medium corporations to Fortune 500 companies, and their individual involvement may consist of an entire account, set of accounts, or to a selection of individual projects within a larger account. This candidate must be self driven and possess excellent time management skills as this role will be expected to handle multiple account responsibilities. While the EM will provide task delegation and direction similar to that of a project manager, they will also need to possess a solid understanding of the delivery of technical services solutions and consultative services in the enterprise storage environment, using this experience and knowledge to oversee the technical decision making process, consultative solutions development and business presentations to customer executives. Thus, the EM must be able to demonstrate strong consultative competencies and be able to mentor the team from a consulting skills perspective.
Delivery responsibilities will include being the primary contact point with clients to ensure seamless delivery of engagements, as well as a foothold in relationship development for future engagements. The EM will report directly into Delivery Managers, providing account status and serving as primary escalation points during client engagements. The position is a natural segue into the Delivery Manager role where they will assume other HR related tasks and manage staff across multiple accounts within a regional business portfolio. The EM must be a team player, have excellent communication and customer service skills and should possess technical and executive writing skills in addition to having fluency with standard project management tools.
The ability to work independently and make decisions are critical skills. The proper candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Prior consulting and account ownership experience is necessary. Must have travel flexibility.
Major Field of Study: Information Technology, General Engineering or equivalent background. Experience with Storage Technologies (EMC, IBM, HDS, etc) Unix Operating System or Switch Technologies (Brocade, McData, etc) is a plus.
Technical Certifications are a plus (EMC, IBM, Brocade, McData, Symantec, Solaris, AIX, Veritas, HP, and any other STORAGE / SAN / NAS technology). PMI certification is also a plus.
Work Experience: At least 2 years of deployment and integration experience within large corporate server environments ideally from both a project and operational perspective. Must possess 2 years of experience with account management, preferably in a technical consulting environment. Experience with global, enterprise class storage and backup infrastructures is preferred. Must be able to develop detailed project and architecture plans, provide consistent project and account reporting, and successfully provide direction and oversight to technical teams.
TRAVEL NOTE: Travel for this role varies. Average is 20-25% travel, sometimes no travel at all.
