This position is responsible for editing clinical patient notes written by physicians for each visit in the ambulatory Thoracic Surgery Clinics located at Carney, Metrowest, 850 Boylston and Brigham &Women's hospitals. He/She will edit clinical text and be very comfortable with medical terminology. This person must be able to work independently and quickly, and exercise excellent judgment skills. This part-time position would be working from home.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Responsibilities
Transcription Editing
1.Accesses transcribed notes using LMR and the Thoracic Surgery network. Edits all dictated material for accuracy of medical information and demographics on both patients and their referring physicians. Uses knowledge of medical terms and procedures pertaining to Thoracic Surgery and their care.
2.When changes are indicated in a doctor's note, this person is to update the patient's electronic medical record with regard to referring physicians.
3.Tracks outstanding office notes and reports to the Operations Supervisor an updated list of outstanding dictation by surgeon on a monthly basis. The target turnaround time for editing notes is 48 hours from the time it is available.
4.Other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor.
Secondary Responsibilities
1.Provide backup coverage to the Medical Records Correspondent for printing and sending office notes to referring physicians.
2.Other clerical duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
1.Directly reports to the Operations Supervisor of the Division of Thoracic Surgery.
2.Consults with Medical Charts Coordinator of the Division of Thoracic Surgery.
3.Extensive daily communication and contact with the administrative assistants who support the thoracic surgeons.
Job Requirements: .
1.Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
2.Associates degree, or equivalent, with three years experience in a professional office, preferably a medical office.
3.Applications level software skills including MS Windows and MS Office. Knowledge of BICS a strong plus.
