Job Description

Dot Foods is the nations largest redistributor, supplying solutions to the food industry. Since 1960, Dot Foods has been delivering food products quickly and reliably from manufacturers to distributors all across the U.S. We don't sell to the operator--our customer is the distributor.


Dot brings distributors the largest selection of products of any foodservice redistributor. We offer over 60,000 quality products from 700 food industry manufacturers that our customers know and trust.
How Redistribution Works;


1.Food Manufacturers -- manufacturers (General Mills, Kraft, etc.) market products either through their own sales force of direct reps, through independent brokers, or using a combination of both.


2. Distributors - companies that buy directly from manufacturers and deliver food products to operators. Distributors may be broadliners carrying all types of products, or specialists who sell a particular product category or customer segment. They typically service a 50- to 200-mile radius.


3. Operators -- end users such as restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, vending, dairies and bakeries -- anywhere food is prepared away from home. Operators buy food products from distributors.
Manufacturers are experts at product development, production and marketing. They develop transportation systems designed to efficiently ship their products in large truckloads to distributors. But in the United States, there are more than 10,000 distributors. Many of these distributors are not large enough to regularly order in truckload quantities...or do not want to order large quantities that will need to be warehoused for long periods. Manufacturers usually do not have the ability to deliver to those customers efficiently.


Dot specializes in servicing distributors who buy in less-than-truckload (LTL) quantities. Dot consolidates products from the 700 manufacturers in our warehouses for weekly delivery to distributors. There is normally no extra cost to the distributor when buying from Dot. Manufacturers compensate Dot to handle distribution of their LTL orders, the most expensive orders for a manufacturer to fill.

District Sales Manager

A District Sales Manager (DSM) at Dot Foods is our outside/field sales person, who primarily calls on foodservice distributors to increase our number of product lines and line items to those customers. The DSM also makes calls on brokers and supplier direct reps, in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork, to increase our mutual sales. The DSM works for a Dot Regional Sales Manager (RSM) and with a Dot Inside Sales Representative (ISR) to acquire new business and service current customers. DSMs are assigned a specific territory, in this case Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and work from home.


Since we believe strongly in promoting from within, the DSM position is often a stepping-stone to other sales, marketing and operations positions.
