DIRECTOR – PHILANTHROPY
Focus on Major Gifts
Position will be based out of a “home office” in Southern California.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Our client, one of the world's largest charitable / protection organizations, has instant name recognition and a decades' long tradition of advocacy and the successful advancement of their causes.
Already in the forefront of fundraising, they have made the decision to add a Development Professional to their team to cover their S. California region, which extends from south of Los Angeles down through San Diego. It is important to note that this individual will work from their “home based office".
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage a prospect file of 150 donors. Develop moves management strategies to ensure the effective and timely cultivation and solicitation of major gifts (with some planned giving activity). Works cooperatively and collaboratively with Regional Program Office as well as local volunteers.
An average of 10 face-to-face visits per month with donors within their assigned territory – Prioritize gift capacity and readiness.
Initiate systematic and strategic donor communication process that will ensure 900 contacts (phone calls, emails and direct mail) occur over the course of a year with donors located within their territory who have been identified for the capacity to make a major or planned gift.
Conduct Donor prospecting, research and prioritization. The organization provides excellent tools along with an existing database to accomplish this.
Enter all moves management and other information activity into Raiser’s Edge.
Ensure accurate donor records and gift acknowledgement procedures are in place and implemented.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
A fundraising professional with confidence, self-motivation, effective communication skills, persuasive interpersonal skills and a good business sense will thrive with this organization.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Strong leadership skills coupled with the ability to adapt effectively within a growing and dynamic environment.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to view and act upon issues in a strategic manner.
They should have a minimum of 5 years experience successfully securing major gifts with a proven-track record of closing five-figure gifts and up. Will have knowledge of planned giving.
Professional certification, while not required, is viewed favorably.
A willingness to travel throughout their region for face-to-face meetings with donors. Travel percentage is approximately 40%.
