Job description:
Pomeroy IT Solutions, a leader in the IT industry, has an immediate long term
assignment available for a Sybase DBA.
Job Title: Sybase DBA
Job Location: Work from home
Pomeroy IT Solutions has been in the IT industry since 1981. Today, we employ
over 4,000 people, have 26 locations and provide companies with IT solutions
ranging from application development to storage strategies to desktop
management.
Job Duration: 12 months
Hands-on, multi-years, experienced Sybase DBA primarily providing on-going
database administration support for Sybase RDBMS based systems. It may also
involve in support of time sensitive projects should it requires.
Responsibilities include all general database administrative works,
such as:
a). Sybase RDBMS software installation, upgrade, patch. Primary SQL version is
ASE 12.5.3, some ASE 11.9
b). Experience with Sybase Replication Server a plus
c). Database creation and migration
d). Database capacity planning
e). Database objects creation and maintenance
f). Database backup and recovery
g). Database problem diagnostics and resolution
h). Database monitoring script writing
i). Experiences in managing large databases (> 1 terabyte)
j). Annual DRT exercise required
k). Experiences and knowledge of BMC's SQLBacktrack, TSM (Tivoli Storage
Manager), and SQL Server DBMS are a plus
l). Backup other DBA's workload as required
m). Database operational documentation for new databases productionization when
it is needed
n). DBA on-call support rotations when needed
o). Being able to work independently and as well working with other DBA's on the
team and customer on a daily basis
p). Multi-tasking ability required
q). Willingness to learn new skills and new knowledge if required for the job
on-hand or for a given project
r). Effective communication skills with other DBA's, Project managers, and
customer on technical issues and resolutions
s). Provide assistance to other DBA team members should it require
t). Motivated and service oriented
u). Follow established technical standards in regard of database environment
creation and maintenance
