Remote Technical Support

Description:
*** This position will be based in the home or private office of the selected applicant, within driving distance of Secaucus, New Jersey. ***

Position Summary:

Perform day-to-day support of all Petfinder staff, partners, sponsors, members, and visitors in use of all technology employed in the use of our services by independently researching, analyzing, resolving, and responding to problems/questions via email and/or telephone in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

1. Acquire and maintain knowledge of support policies and supported products.
2. Receive and properly react to all messages directed to the Petfinder technical support team within performance parameters.
3. Provide assistance to staff, members, and visitors, with issues related to computer hardware, software, or other electronic items to solve specific problems with a close eye on prioritizing the severity of each incident.
4. Make accurate and responsible decisions regarding the appropriate avenue of response for supplying solutions such as remote VNC, in-office visits, email, instant messaging, and phone.
5. Support members and visitors in the use of the Petfinder website and admin systems.
6. Enable and support all member mass data-import accounts, including manual data processing and correction of supplied data formats.
7. Enable and support member FTP accounts and use of supplied scripts such as form mail.
8. Server monitoring and basic emergency maintenance, including 24 hours/day on-call shift rotations, reporting directly to the System Administration staff.
9. Visits to server hosting facility to assist in server hardware installation and other maintenance as needed.
10. Keep appropriate records of all tasks this includes using a documentation wiki, bug tracker and other tracking mechanisms as well as submitting progress and weekly highlight reports.
11. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

* Expert troubleshooting skills with desktop platforms including Windows XP/2000/98, DOS, Linux, Mac OS
* Ability to understand, diagnose, and resolve issues with a large range of applications including but not limited to FTP, HTML, web browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, viruses, spyware, and virtual office communications
* Ability to analyze and extract essential information from vague client requests for help, to determine the exact issue at hand.
* Ability and desire to acquire new skills and knowledge quickly, often with no outside help or documentation.
* Ability to think and work independently.
* Willingness to dedicate long hours, through various shifts, to accomplish critical goals completely, accurately, and to the standards required.
* Technical Support experience a plus.
* Valid driver s license required.
* Occasional travel required.
* Legal right to work in the United States.
