POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures provides legal/general support to the firm's attorneys and their clients. Must be familiar with and observe the firm's established policies and guidelines. Must maintain positive contact with attorneys (both the firm's and outside counsel), support staff, clients and vendors. Observes confidentiality of client and firm matters. This position is not limited to these responsibilities and may be revised as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ability to work and learn independently and meet deadlines;
Ability to interact well with attorneys and clients;
Excellent proofreading skills;
Thorough knowledge of the Blue Book;
Ability to perform substantive and technical cite-checks;
Ability to assist in preparation for depositions, hearings, mediation, arbitration, and/or trial;
Ability to assist with discovery research and due diligence;
Ability to assist in servicing and filing of pleadings, briefs, etc. in courts, federal agencies, and attorney offices;
Ability to assist attorneys in preparing correspondence, documents, pleadings, etc;
Good case organizational and management skills;
Ability to organize and maintain all case files, including discovery, exhibits, deposition, etc.;
Experience with obtaining and reviewing medical records;
Experience with database and litigation software packages; and
Knowledge of Federal and State court rules

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor s degree with a Paralegal Certificate or a degree in Paralegal Studies.

Experience:

At least four years experience as a paralegal including familiarity with employment and commercial litigation.

Skills:

Extensive knowledge of PCs and the Microsoft Office suite. Expereince in the use of Lexis, Westlaw and various litigation software packages, such as, Concordance and/or Summation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels. Possess a customer focus and have a track record of providing the highest level of customer service. Able to organize and prioritize issues and workload. Good decision maker and proven ability to manage time, people and resources in order to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to manage projects and handle multiple competing priorities. Ability to take initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done. Able to solve problems quickly, effectively, and diplomatically. Flexibility and ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities.

OTHER:

Equipment to be Used:

Must be able to operate computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine and so on.

Typical Physical Demands:

Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time. May require lifting up to 20 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computer, keyboard, telephone, photcopier, printer, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Typical Mental Demands:

Able to deal with stress associated with fast-paced work environment. Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and tasks. Make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels.

Working Conditions:

Works in a typical office setting. Must be able to work overtime, work through lunch or work at home to meet deadlines when required.
