Requirements
Web based GPS and tracking application needs to be built from scratch, utilizing existing SQL 2005 database. Need strong web based GUI experience on Microsoft side, can architect and be hands on to integrate a web based service which will interface between the database, and front end web client.
This project is basically taking a desktop tracking and mapping application written in Visual C++ 6 and making it a web application with no installation of any kind permitted (ie Java, Flash) on the client (IE and Firefox). The web client will be using Google Maps to start and in the future may be adapted to use Microsoft maps. The goal of the web application is to mimic the functionality of the desktop application as closely as possible.
IIS and either ASP or ASP.NET as the web server implementation of choice. Will need someone with experience to help decide on the suitability of ASP.NET, what to use to implement the UI elements and the proper division of functionality between the web server and the core of the application.
We view the following skills as being important:
- Scalable web system design/implementation
- Web UI design/implementation
- ASP, ASP.NET, AJAX, HTML, JavaScript, CSS and related web technology SQL Server 2005
- 3rd party web UI frameworks/controls (Commercial, Yahoo toolkit, etc)
- Some familiarity w/ Subversion source control (desired but not required)
