Senior Consultant, USA
MySQL is looking for a seasoned Senior Consultant for the Professional Services team in the United States or Canada. The job is fast paced, requires very deep MySQL database technical skills, and involves frequent travel across North America to work with clients on site. The Consultant will deliver services with a special focus on Performance Tuning, High Availability, Scale-Out, Architecture &Design, Migration, and Proof of Concepts design and implementation. The Professional Services Consultant will work with other team members, customers, partners and sub-contractors, sales team and the engineering group to ensure successful delivery to our clients.
Responsibilities:
Include, but not limited to:
Responsibility for database design, administration, tuning and optimization, migration from other database vendors to MySQL, development and integration in support of customer engagements. This includes accountability for functional completeness and delivery against performance, supportability, and testability goals.
Working with other professional services and sales team members in pre-sale engagements to produce mockups and proof of concepts.
Working closely with clients and MySQL project managers and team to clearly define scope of work and provide accurate schedule estimates.
Acting as technical guide and mentor to other team members.
Creating and maintaining technical documentation, best practices and methodology.
Translating customer specifications into quality deliverables.
Following and enhancing coding standards and development guidelines.
Participating in code and design reviews. .
Qualifications:
5+ year's database development experience working with with schema design, database programming, stored procedures and database performance tuning, especially for complex queries.
Deep understanding of MySQL, Oracle and/or MS SQL Server.
Experience in writing stored procedures, triggers and functions in multiple development environments (Linux , Windows, Solaris, UNIX).
Language skills: C/C++, Java, PHP, Perl, Python.
Experience with connectors: JDBC, ODBC, DBI.
Strong problem solving skills with an eye for the big-picture and capable of
delving into details when required. Must be creative; be able to develop new simple approaches to complex design problems.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and have a flexible positive attitude.
Must be an experienced, motivated, self-starter who is willing to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fluent in English.
Significant travel could be required, upwards of 60-80%.
Education: BS or MS in computer science or equivalent experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
MySQL Professional and Core Certifications.
Expertise with in-memory databases and other high-performance alternatives.
Experience with Scale-Out, and setting up replication architectures.
Experience with High Availability and Telco grade 5 9's deployments.
Experience with other DBMS including Oracle RAC, Sybase, Informix, PostgreSQL, Pervasive, Times Ten and Cache is a plus.
Experience with application and web servers such as WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Apache Tomcat.
Working knowledge of J2EE/LAMP stacks (EJB, JSP, ASP, Servlets, JNDI, XML/XSL) to implement a distributed n-tier object system.
Object-oriented analysis &design skills.
Experience with data modeling.
Project management skills.
Development experience under Linux, Windows, Solaris, UNIX. .
