Job description summary: Professional Logistics Group, Inc. is a dynamic and growing firm that provides logistics consulting and management services to a wide range of industries. Our focus is the strategic elements of logistics, including planning, procurement, negotiations, supply chain design, competitive access, site selection, infrastructure development, due diligence, technology implementation, market intelligence, and other major strategic initiatives. Our client base consists of Fortune 500 corporations, transportation companies, investment banks, and other stakeholders in the global logistics industry.
We are currently seeking a Projects Manager/Operations Leader/Client Services Leader who will lead and manage individual client projects and also help set the direction, strategy, and methods of our firm. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, detail oriented, well organized, and able to run with the ball and take complex projects from start to finish.
Minimum requirements/experience:
1. At least seven years experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, transportation-related engineering, logistics IT, and/or consulting
2. Demonstrated successful experience in managing/leading projects and project teams
3. Four-year college degree

Job description details:
1. Manages and drives client projects from start to finish, including
o Organizing PLG assigned project team members
o Organizing additional required resources for the project
o Establishing project timelines, work schedules, milestones/tollgates, due dates
o Keeping projects on-task and on-schedule
o Interacting closely with client on a frequent basis to ensure
Client needs are met
PLG is reactive to any changes in scope or mission
Client is satisfied with progress and work products
Meetings/conference calls are scheduled and executed
New needs and opportunities that PLG can assist client with are probed for and pursued
o Directing, organizing, managing the work performed by PLG contractors
o Ensuring that all work and deliverables are consistent with and completely fulfill requirements of the Scope of Work
o Manage project budget and hours to ensure that cost overruns don t occur and that if scope creep occurs it is paid for
2. Write and assist in writing of client proposals and SOW documents, including designating assigned project teams and key experts to be utilized from PLG team
3. Prepare or assist in preparing project budgets, including hours estimates for team members
4. Participate in sales calls and meetings with prospective clients and participate in each step of the way from client prospecting to client lead to proposal to SOW drafting/negotiating to closing
5. Assist in managing project and overall PLG profitability
6. Participate in/contribute to strategic growth initiatives and setting direction for the firm, including brainstorming, research, client and partner inquiries for new markets, clients, industries, modes, commodities, partnerships, services, geographic areas, and products. May also include leading new product development (NPD) or new market development projects for PLG.
7. Attend industry conferences and conventions in order to grow the candidate and the firm s knowledge, exposure and reach and also to network and help cultivate new client prospects
8. Assist in managing PLG contractor base, including inventory of skills and expertise, compensation, and resources
9. Stay current on transportation and logistics industry news, events, trends
10. Check in continuously with current active clients as well as all PLG contractor team members
11. Coordinate internal PLG team meetings for brainstorming, project work, strategic planning
Working conditions:
1. Job involves approximately 50 percent travel
2. Position will be a work-from-home position for at least the first year. PLG is a growing company that will eventually obtain office space in downtown Chicago or Oak Park, IL that is within walking distance to Metra and CTA rail service. Currently, all PLG team members work from home offices and converge on client sites and for internal meetings as and when needed.
Compensation:
1. Salary range: $60-$75K plus bonus opportunity
2. 401K, health and dental plan will be provided
3. Home office, telecom, and computing stipend will be provided
4. Three weeks paid vacation .

7. Strong interpersonal skills that allows the candidate to work well with third party sources of information and services, i.e. gathering information and intelligence from and negotiating with such sources
8. Strong interpersonal skills that allow the candidate to network effectively with industry contacts and relationships, including prospective clients
9. Ability to synthesize information, think broadly, take out of the box approaches to problems, issues, client needs
10. Ability to meet deadlines
11. Resiliency, determination, and perseverance ability to break through barriers such as it can t be done, we can t figure it out, I m not getting any answers, I don t know.
12. Ability and willingness to research and investigate ideas, information, concepts, industries, methods, disciplines, companies, services, processes, technologies, and topics with which candidate is not initially familiar but about which candidate educates himself/herself as needed by the client, project, or PLG
13. Ability to take balls and run with them self-motivated and assertive enough to take ownership of and drive issues, tasks, concepts, needs, and ideas even in cases where direction, support, and assistance may be sketchy
14. Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite programs (.xls, .doc, .ppt) and ability to learn new software and technology products as needed by client, project, or PLG
15. Strong writing skills
16. Strong quantitative skills and ability to use Excel to analyze data and express data for findings/conclusions/recommendations and client deliverables in general
17. Comfortable working with a small, entrepreneurial growth company and interested in being an integral part of that growth
18. Comfortable with working from home and self-motivated enough to be productive working independently at times
19. Strong attention to detail .
