Wheel Shop Supervisor
Plan, coordinate, prioritize, monitor and participate in the work of crews responsible for the mechanical repairs to vehicles and equipment; assign work to assigned crews; monitor work activities to ensure safe work practices, work quality and accuracy; ensure compliance to applicable rules, policies and procedures; perform the more difficult and complex mechanical duties of the work unit including engine overhauls, and major mechanical defects.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures; recommend programs, projects and work assignments to higher level Public Works department personnel.
Respond to questions and inquiries.
Develop schedules and methods for performing assigned duties; maintain appropriate work records and documents which include time sheets and work orders; input work orders into computer; prepare statistical and analytical reports on operations as necessary; submit recommendations to the Public Works department budget; monitor budget expenditures.
Participate in the selection and training of mechanic shop personnel; assume responsibility for motivating and evaluating assigned personnel; provide necessary training; initiate discipline procedures as is appropriate.
Repair mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, graders, rollers, and other mechanical equipment; tear down motors; overhaul engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, carburetors, generators and pumps.
Order and maintain parts inventory, supplies and equipment; recommend types of vehicles to purchase; schedule and perform inspections, repairs and certifications; check vehicle computer systems.
