Small Engine Mechanic
Diagnose, adjust and repair small internal combustion engines and associated equipment, such as chain saws, post hole diggers, jackhammers, pneumatic tampers, portable generators, and cement cutters.
Overhaul small gasoline powered internal combustion engines (e.g., outboard motors); identify and locate cause of problem by dismantling engines, carburetors, fuel injection systems; use a variety of standard hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment such as compression gauges, ammeters and volt meters.
Replace batteries, battery cables, fuses and switches; repair ignitions and wiring; assure magnetos are providing adequate current and timing for ignition.
Repair and change tires, grease and change oil in motors and equipment; perform seasonal maintenance on small engine and related equipment; check and service spark plugs and points; overhaul and repair carburetors; set engines to specifications.
Maintain a supply and computerized database of equipment parts (e.g., blades and chains) and small engine parts (e.g., batteries, oil, filters, points and spark plugs) for a wide variety of portable equipment; order additional parts as needed; performs annual inventory and prepare inventory reports.
