    • Work from plans and specifications.
    • Seal foundations with damp-resistant materials.
    • Spread layers of mortar to serve as a base and binder for bricks.
    • Remove excess mortar, and check vertical and horizontal alignment.
    • Use various tools and brick-cutting machines to cut and shape bricks.
    • Construct arches and ornamental brickwork.
    • Repair and maintain clay bricks.
    • Cement blocks/bricks and related structures.
    • Erect scaffolding (subject to license requirements in some states).

    Solid Foundation, Minneapolis, MN                 2000 - 2002

    Apprentice Bricklayer
    • Spread soft bed (layer) of mortar that served as base and binder for block, using trowel.
    • Applied mortar to end of block and positioned block in mortar bed.
    • Tapped block with trowel to level, align, and embed in mortar, allowing specified thickness of joint.
    • Removed excess mortar from face of block, using trowel.
    • Finished mortar between brick with pointing tool or trowel.
    • Brook bricks to fit spaces too small for whole brick, using edge of trowel or brick hammer.
    • Determined vertical and horizontal alignment of courses, using plumb bob, gaugeline (tightly stretched cord), and level.
    • Fastened brick or terra cotta veneer to face of structures, with tie wires embedded in mortar between bricks, or in anchor holes in veneer brick.
    • Welded metal parts to steel structural members.
    • Applied plaster to walls and ceiling, using trowel, to complete repair work
