Dear Jean:

Welcome aboard! I’m sure you’re going to be a valuable asset to our team in Miami. With your help, we’re going to get that new software line off to a commendable start.

I’m sure you have some questions about what you are supposed to do and how you should do it—but take it easy and you’ll do fine. There are lots of folks around here who will help you out with their great wisdom!

As I’m sure you know, to be a successful salesperson, you need a plan. Therefore, our plan for the next two weeks is as follows:

Week of 2/10        This week should be spent familiarizing yourself with our shop operations. Move about the shop, ask about equipment with which you’re unfamiliar, ask about how things are done and why. Introduce yourself to the operators. Locate the pricing book and skim through it (we’ll discuss that the second week). Then spend the rest of the week calling your old accounts to tell them you’ve moved, and it wouldn’t hurt if you want to drum up a little business from your old accounts.

Week of 2/17        You and I will spend the week together discussing time and territory management, how to use the pricing book, and how to make effective sales calls. Then you will put what you have learned into practice.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you better and meshing our skills into a very successful team. I’m equally confident the community will welcome your husband and boys. In fact, why don’t you let the boys meet you here after shop hours some evening? I think they’d probably like to see the heavy equipment.

If you have other questions before you report your first week, feel free to call me here or at home (233-4598).

Best regards,
