Flexibility

Real estate agents who work for themselves total about 60%. Government statistics report that 16% of workers are employed part-time.

Education

A postsecondary vocational award is often necessary for working in the field. About 45% of real estate agents have earned a degree. Some college, below a 4-year degree, is sufficient for 37% of workers. Employees with only a high school education represent about 18% of all.

Local Outlook

Real estate agents appear most common in Myrtle Beach (South Carolina), Punta Gorda (Florida), and Fort Walton Beach (Florida), and least common in Wichita (Kansas), Des Moines (Iowa), and Spokane (Washington). San Diego (California), San Luis Obispo (California), and Nassau (New York) offer the highest pay. Bowling Green (Kentucky), McAllen (Texas), and Albany (Georgia) offer the lowest salaries.
