We welcome you to JobBank USA and hope your job hunting experience is a pleasant one. We hope you find our resources useful.

  • Read the application carefully, before you begin writing.
  • Be prepared! Have your master application with you at all times.
  • Appearance should be neat and legible--always print. Don't turn in applications with items crossed out, smudges or coffee stains. Do it over!
  • Use black ink or type.
  • Keep an extra copy of the application form. You may have to update it or reapply every couple of months.
  • Never leave blanks.
  • If you have a lot of short one or two day jobs, don't list them all. You may list these jobs together under a single heading like "sales" or "general labor."
  • Check for spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Be aware of the company's rules regarding applications: one application for every job, attachment of resumes, etc.
  • Make your employment history reflect activities and skills you achieved. Begin each statement with an action verb.
  • Be as positive about your work experience as possible. Beware of words which limit your skills such as "helped," "assisted," etc.
  • Make sure you have an up-to-date list of addresses and phone numbers; as well as dates of your employment, supervisors' names and phone numbers.
  • Always notify your references before putting them on the application. References can be any responsible adult who is not related to you and who knows something good about you and is willing to say so.
  • Under "Salary Desired," be open to negotiation. If pushed, state a range.
  • Do not rely solely on the job advertisement for information regarding the position you are applying for. Always obtain a detailed job description from the company and include your skills which are most relevant.
