Last year, 250 conventions generated more than $15.3 million of revenue for our state. This year, the State Board of Tourism seeks to grow this important business to over $20 million. To help achieve this aggressive plan, we seek an experienced Convention Planner.
This key player will serve as a liaison between convention sponsors and local hotels, restaurants, attractions, and meeting sites. Keeping a master calendar, the Convention Planner will also work to maximize the use of space, steady the flow of convention business, and coordinate activities with other departments and related agencies.
Qualifications:
* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Detail-oriented, deadline-driven.
* BS in Business, Marketing, or related field.
* 5+ years of experience.
* Track record of community involvement.
You'll be on an even faster track. You'll need to know about all the activities, attractions, and restaurants in the area. The first two weeks on the job will be spent exploring, doing and dining. After that, there will be some evening and weekend hours-primarily showing off the city to visiting site selection committees. You'll receive $25 per hour additional pay for serving as host or hostess evenings and weekends.
This is a permanent, full-time position with a competitive compensation package. Salary range is $22,000-$26,500, based on experience. No relocation assistance is offered-we prefer someone already in love with the area for this position. We are an independent, not-for-profit agency, in operation since 1975. A pre-employment drug screen is required to be considered for this position. EOE/Non-smoking.
