DENVER - A 61-year-old Denver woman remained in jail Monday, charged with scamming $400,000 from the state since 1994 through a complex unemployment benefits scheme.

Denver District Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough reported a Denver grand jury delivered indictments last week that were unsealed Saturday after the arrest of Adell Rastutis on 51 felony counts.

The indictments allege Rastutis registered bogus businesses with the state Department of Labor and Employment, then assumed fake identities allowing her to receive unemployment benefits. Officials say auditors uncovered the operation last year.

Rastutis is charged with 16 counts of computer fraud, eight counts of theft, 20 counts of forgery and seven counts of criminal impersonation. If convicted on every count, Rastutis could be sentenced to 480 years in jail.

Her bond is set at $100,000. She is due in Denver District Court on Thursday.
