Unemployment rates in Harrison and Hancock counties fell by 2.2 and 2 percent in August, with Harrison getting under 10 percent for the first time since Hurricane Katrina a year earlier.
The rate in Harrison County fell to 9.6 percent, still well above the 5.9 percent in August 2005, the last month of data before Katrina.
Hancock County's rate was 7.9 percent. It fell below 10 percent for the first time in July.
Jackson County's rate fell to 7.4 percent, a 1.6-percent decline.
Stone County's rate fell 1 percent in August to 13.4 percent, and is the fourth-highest in the state. The state's unemployment rate fell from 1.1 percent to 7.2 percent.
The rate in George County declined slightly to 12.0 percent, and Pearl River's fell 1 percent to 6.5 percent.
