The state’s unemployment rate dipped slightly in August to 4 percent, the lowest monthly rate since July 2000.

Jobs continue to be created in construction, tourism, education and health care, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development.

“Over the past year alone, the state’s jobless rate has fallen from 5.2 percent to 4.0 percent,” said Commissioner James Neeley. “We have seen continued growth in employment, with the growth in the number of people finding jobs exceeding the growth in the number of people looking for jobs.”

In Tennessee, the rate fell in August .1 percentage point from the month before and 1.2 percentage points from August a year ago. The national unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in August, unchanged from the month before.
