Laid off workers wanting to file their unemployment insurance claims will not be able to do so this weekend.
The Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance said Friday its TeleClaim phone processing system will be down Saturday, Sept. 19, in order to convert its computer systems to meet “mandatory federal regulations.” The center will reopen Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.
Job seekers will still be able to certify their eligibility for weekly benefits using the WebCert or TeleCert systems, and payment of benefits will not be impacted, the DUA said.
This week state officials disclosed the unemployment rate topped 9.1 percent in August, its highest level since July 1991. The DUA expanded the TeleClaim service’s hours to include Saturdays to meet the increased demand for services.
