SACRAMENTO - Thanks to the severe weather that has hit northern California, many state workers couldn't make it to work or were sent home early. Now, there's a backlog in the processing of unemployment checks.

The Employment Development Department, the unit responsible for issuing the checks, is warning people that they may receive their money a few days late. Nearly 100,000 people are expected to be affected by the delays.

The EDD has told CBS13 that employees are working overtime to try and catch people up. They expect to be back on schedule by this Friday.
