Govt Sending Unemployment Aid To Former Lumber Workers

GROVETON, N.H. - The government is sending special unemployment aid to laid off workers at a lumber company in Groveton (New Hampshire) and paper mill workers expected to lose their jobs next month in Gorham.

The Trade Adjustment program aid is going to 167 workers at Gorham's Fraser Papers and 16 at Groveton's Perras Lumber.

The program helps workers who lose jobs because of foreign competition or trade. It offers job training and counseling, job search help and health insurance costs.

Fraser papers is scheduled to shut down 2 of its paper machines next month. Ferras laid off 16 workers in December.

Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu and Congressman Paul Hodes announced the aid.
