The unemployment rate in the South Atlantic states, including Maryland, remained nearly flat in June, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The South Atlantic census division -- which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia -- recorded an unemployment rate of 5.2 percent in June. The rate was 5.1 percent in May, and has hovered between 5 percent and 5.2 percent in all but one month since the beginning of the year.
Maryland's unemployment rate has been well below that of the South Atlantic region. The state's unemployment rate fell slightly in June, to 4.3 percent from 4.5 percent in May. The state's unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in June of last year.
The South Atlantic continued to see lower unemployment rates than the rest of the country. The U.S. unemployment rate in June was 6.4 percent.
