Portland unemployment worst in nation

There's more disappointing news on the unemployment front. The nation's unemployment rate actually dropped to 6.2 percent last month.
That's down from 6.4 percent in June.

That might sound like good news, until you realize the jobless rate dropped because close to half a million people simply gave up looking for work because of the scarce job market.

Nationwide experts were hoping for as many as 10,000 new jobs in July.

Instead employers eliminated 44,000 jobs.

The news is no better for the Portland area where the unemployment rate is now at 8.8 percent.

That gives the Rose City the dubious honor of having the worst unemployment rate of 'every city in the nation' that has a population of more than one million people.
