The state Labor Department says the Kansas jobless rate fell .1 of a percent last month.

March unemployment stood at 5.5 percent, down from 5.6 percent in February and 5.8 percent in March of 2004.

About 6,300 more people held jobs in March than in February, bringing the total number to almost 1.38 million. Construction and leisure businesses added jobs over the month.

The Labor Department says the number of non-farm jobs rose by more than 26,000 over the previous year, helped by gains in manufacturing.
