Ill. Employers to Pay Lower Unemployment Insurance Tax

St. Louis Business Journal

December 5, 2005

Nearly 90 percent of Illinois employers will see lower unemployment insurance tax rates for 2006, the state's Department of Employment Security said Monday.

The maximum rate dropped from 9.8 percent in 2005 to 8.9 percent in 2006, the department said. The minimum rate is 1.1 percent.

More than 147,800 employers will pay the lowest rate, while 43,475 employers will pay the highest rate, the department said.

Unemployment insurance contributions are based on experience, for example, companies that release a large number of workers will pay higher rates than companies that release fewer workers.
