LANSING — Michigan already has the nation’s highest unemployment rate and that probably won’t change when June figures are announced.

The state expects to release the latest snapshot of its employment picture today.

Michigan’s jobless rate in May was 14.1%. That’s the highest monthly rate in the state in nearly 26 years.

Economists project that Michigan’s unemployment rate generally will rise in the second half of this year and into 2010. But there could be variations month-to-month.

Trouble in the auto industry has hurt Michigan but job loss has spread to several other employment areas.
