The Ann Arbor region was one of four in the state to experience a slight drop in its unemployment rate in October, according to the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth.
Ann Arbor's unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent in October, down from 6.5 percent in September - but it was higher than a 4.4 percent unemployment rate in October 2007. The city has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, while the Flint region had the highest rate at 10.9 percent.
In Livingston County, unemployment rose to 6.6 percent from 6.2 percent in September. The rate there was 5.3 percent in October 2007.
Michigan's unemployment rose to 8.6 percent in October, up from 8.3 percent in September and 6.7 percent in October last year.
Regional unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted. Michigan's October seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 9.3 percent, tied with Rhode Island as the nation's highest.
