Friday is the last day on the job for more than 500 Evansville Whirlpool employees.
They're being laid off, and many don't believe they'll ever be back.
Almost a third of the workforce laid off, and some are questioning whether this is the start of a bigger trend.
There was little nostalgia as 1st shift workers left Whirlpool on Friday, some for the last time ever.
Some workers yelled obscenities at the plant, others sadly accepted reality.
Nancy Whitehead's worked here for five years, but she's not sure the plant will last another half decade because the company is shifting some production to plants in Mexico and other states.
Nancy says she has noticed some changes, "We're going down to 2 lines, and they've already said they're not gonna be here in 5 years."
So is this the beginning of the end of Whirlpool?
Marcia Wilder is keeping her job and a positive outlook, "I've been hearing that for 16 years, I dunno. You can't judge what tomorrow's gonna bring."
Though there is the possibility of a recall, no employees 14 News spoke to think there's a good chance of that happening anytime soon.
