With rumors swirling about mass layoffs at Wellmont Health System today, a spokesman said that none is planned.
Several sources contacted the Herald Courier with tips that the health care provider planned to dismiss 150 employees, but spokesman Brad Lifford said “this is not the case.“
Lifford also denied reports that there were mandatory meetings with employees today. He confirmed a Kingsport Times-News report that Wellmont is looking at outsourcing its medical transcription services, which could affect up to 50 employees.
“We are looking at possibilities that could include outsourcing, or it could be kept in-house, or we could share resources with other health systems,“ Lifford said.
