ALEXANDRIA, LA - Union Tank Car Co. has ordered another round of cuts in employment and production at manufacturing plants in Alexandria and Sheldon, Texas.
The company says the cuts will take effect in early July with as many as 300 employees affected. The company hasn't decided on an exact number at each plant.
Union Tank Car spokesman Bruce Winslow said Friday that the reductions are due to a current lack of orders for rail cars.
In March, Union Tank lowered production and cut a combined 300 employees at the two plants. Another 50 workers were laid off in December in Alexandria.
The Alexandria plant now has about 325 hourly and salaried workers.
