Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota laid off 100 workers this week, according to news reports.

The Eagan-based health insurer cited flat customer enrollment levels due to the recession for the layoffs, which affect the company’s information technology and operations business units. The company, which employs 4,000, has laid off about 300 employees this year, including 100 in July.

The laid-off workers are receiving severance packages and outplacement services, according to a company spokeswoman.
