Bismark, N.D. - Northwest Airlines ground workers in North Dakota are weighing their options.

A union representative says about 85 of the airline's ground crew jobs are being cut at North Dakota's four major airports by the end of the year.

The bankrupt airline is trying to reduce operating costs. Member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers agreed to the layoffs, though union officials say they had little choice.

Northwest is eliminating ground crews at about 70 smaller airports across the country, with plans to contract with private companies to fill those positions.

Bismarck union representative Bryan Dalzell says it's hard on the workers who love their jobs and love Northwest.

Dalzell says ground crew workers in Minot have been told their last day is tentatively set for September 26th. Fargo workers are being laid off as of November 14th, Bismarck workers on November 28th and Grand Forks workers on December 12th.
