Kansas had 21 layoffs of at least 50 workers each in the third quarter, down from 25 mass layoffs in the second quarter and up from eight in last year’s third quarter, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Tuesday.
Kansas had 2,315 initial claims for unemployment insurance related to October’s mass layoffs, down from 10,206 in the second quarter and up from 754 in the third quarter last year.
The nation had 1,776 third-quarter mass layoffs, down from 3,396 in the second quarter and up from 1,581 in last year’s third quarter. Third-quarter claims were 266,938, down from 727,494 in the second quarter and down from 304,340 in last year’s third quarter.
