A Grand Traverse County plant will close in the coming months, leaving 122 people without a job.
Metavation, which produces parts for the automotive industry, gave notice to its workers Friday about the closure. The plant is located on Cass-Hartman Court just outside Traverse City.
Officials say the layoffs will begin December 4th, and the plant will close after its production is complete for customers.
The company is consolidating facilities. The majority of lines going to Mt. Pleasant facility, and one-third will be heading to Mexico. There will be 30 to 40 jobs added to the Mt. Pleasant facility, and officials say workers in Grand Traverse Co. can apply for those open positions.
Metavation supplies parts to American Axle, General Motors, Chrysler and Ford. Officials say with automakers cutting production there is an over capacity at the supplier level.
