While a large number of Johnson Controls, Inc., employees in Middle Tennessee are facing unemployment, the effects will not spread to the Athens plant.

Johnson Controls spokeswoman Debra Lacey confirmed Friday morning that the company's decision to lay off more than 300 employees at its Maury County location will not be mirrored at the Athens facility.

Earlier this week, officials in Maury County said the losses at Johnson Controls along with a similar amount at Penske Logistics in Spring Hill are directly tied to the General Motors Co. decision to move production of the Chevrolet Traverse from their Spring Hill factory to Delta Township near Lansing, Mich.
