Nearly 400 IBM Corp. employees are looking for new jobs within the company or facing layoffs by next month because of a realignment, IBM said yesterday.

The employees are from the Armonk-based company's hardware development division, which develops servers and microchips that go into IBM systems sold globally.

Depending on how many workers find new positions at IBM, the company's plant in Austin could take the biggest hit with 100 layoffs.

Other offices affected include Poughkeepsie, Endicott and Fishkill, (99 employees); Rochester, Minn., (74); Tucson, Ariz. (43); Raleigh, N.C., (35); and Burlington, Vt. (16), plus about a dozen other locations with smaller reductions.
