Venice - Sarasota County's largest manufacturing employer has laid off 300 workers because of a perfect storm in the housing industry.
Custom window maker PGT Incorporated had cut 180 jobs last year as well, contributing to a 40-percent workforce reduction.
The company makes impact-resistant windows and doors. It was hurt by the downturn in the home building industry — and two hurricane-free seasons.
It posted a fourth-quarter loss of 4 million dollars.
