Hallmark delivered some bad news to employees on Tuesday.

The greeting card giant is reducing the size of its workforce by six to eight percent. That's between 550 and 750 jobs in five states.

The cuts will come in the next six months. The company has 9,200 full-time employees nationwide.

A company press release says current economic conditions made the cuts necessary. The company's 2008 revenues were two percent lower than 2007.

Hallmark is headquartered in Kansas City. It has operations in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Illinois and Connecticut.

All affected employees will be provided severance and transition assistance.
