Workers at the Georgia Pacific Day Street plant in Green Bay tell Action 2 News the company began notifying them Tuesday that some jobs are being eliminated.
Georgia Pacific has neither confirmed nor denied layoffs at this point, but here's what workers who say they met with management are telling us:
They say 20 to 30 percent of the workers at the plant are being laid off, some as soon as December 7th. Those being let go are workers hired after 1989.
According to Georgia Pacific's web site, there are 600 workers at that plant.
The employees tell us the layoffs are due to equipment shutdowns.
As workers left the plant Tuesday night, some told us they were disappointed but not surprised to learn they are being let go.
"You look around, a lot of mills everywhere, our competitors, are shutting down, everybody. I think a lot of people thought it was coming but, you know, you hope it don't," union worker Butch Robinson said.
All Georgia Pacific is saying at this point is that employee meetings are being held this week.
The company says it will release a statement on Friday.
