CHICAGO HEIGHTS - Workers at the Ford Chicago Heights Stamping Plant will be facing layoffs when the nearby assembly plant goes from two shifts to one in November, said the local UAW president.
"We will definitely see a reduction, but we don't know how much," said Bill Jackson, president of United Autoworkers Local 588 at the stamping plant.
The news comes after the company on Wednesday announced its plans to eliminate one production shift and about 600 temporary employees at its Chicago Assembly Plant on Nov. 3, according to a company letter.
The Chicago plant, at the intersection of 126th Street and Torrence Avenue, produces the Ford Taurus, the Ford Taurus X and the Mercury Sable.
