PITTSBURGH -- The Port Authority of Allegheny County said it would cut 374 jobs -- a move that would result in 267 layoffs, when service cuts go into effect in June.

The Port Authority is cutting its bus and light-rail service by 15 percent effective June 17 to trim a projected $80 million budget deficit for next fiscal year.

Two-hundred-sixty-seven people will be laid off because not all of the 374 positions are now filled.

In all, 138 operators, 113 union support workers and 16 nonunion staff will lose their jobs.

The service and job cuts leave the Port Authority with a projected $45 million deficit, so officials said more cuts would be made in September if officials can't find more revenue by then.
