More layoffs are planned for San Antonio, according to information provided to the Texas Workforce Commission under the federal WARN Act requirements.
In a notice sent to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Romeoville, IL-based Kehe Food Distributors Inc. announced plans to cut the workforce at its San Antonio facility, located at 4730 Shavano Oak, on the city's North Side.
The wholesale food distributor plans to lay off 91 employees effective Jan. 23, 2010. The layoffs - which include 74 sales reps and 17 merchandisers - will be permanent, according to the company. It is not clear how many employees the company has in total at the local facility. Company officials were not immediately available for comment.
Despite the layoffs, the facility will remain open and no additional layoffs are expected at this time.
Kehe Food Distributors is a leading distributor of more than 40,000 natural and specialty food products. It distributes its extensive product assortment to retail grocery stores of all sizes in 49 states as well as Mexico and the Caribbean.
It is a 100 percent employee-owned company founded in 1952 by Arthur Kehe.
The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) is designed to help workers affected by layoffs by providing them with advanced notice prior to losing their jobs. In Texas, TWC is the agency that receives WARN notices.
