Clear Channel Radio's Milwaukee stations have apparently joined a wave of layoffs at the company's stations nationwide.

Kerry Wolfe, programming director for Clear Channel in Milwaukee, announced to his staff Friday that the company is "restructuring" the traffic reporting department and that traffic announcers Bucky Albright and Luke Sanders "are no longer with the company." The two have worked for the company for several years; their duties will be redistributed to other employees, Wolfe said.

Wolfe did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Clear Channel has been laying off staff in small numbers in at least 16 of the cities where it owns stations, according to reports this week in Radio & Records. Among the cities hit by layoffs are Minneapolis, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Providence, Hartford, New York City, Memphis and San Francisco, according to the radio trade magazine.

Clear Channel, the owner of six Milwaukee-area radio stations, announced Thursday that it has agreed to a buyout offer from a group led by private equity firms Thomas H. Lee Partners LP and Bain Capital Partners L.L.C. valued at $26.7 billion, including the assumption of $8 billion in debt.

San Antonio-based Clear Channel (NYSE: CCU) also said it plans to sell 448 of its 1,150 radio stations. The 448 stations are located in small markets outside the top 100 Arbitron radio markets. Arbitron, an international media and marketing research firm, ranks Milwaukee 33rd among the top 100 radio markets, according to its Web site.

Radio & Records reported that Clear Channel's stations in Eau Claire are among those the company is looking to sell.

In Milwaukee, Clear Channel owns WMIL-FM (106.1), WKKV-FM (100.7), WRIT-FM (95.7), WQBW-FM (97.3), WOKY-AM (920) and WISN-AM (1130).
