Caterpillar officials on Tuesday announced another round of layoffs that will start next month at the Lafayette plant.
Jim Dugan, chief corporate spokesman, said about 106 production employees will be affected by the layoffs.
He said the layoffs will start in November at the Large Engine Center on Indiana 26 East.
The Lafayette plant "continues to monitor its operations and demand in order to balance production needs and employment levels," Dugan said.
"We regret the need to reduce our work force. However, Caterpillar is taking difficult actions today in order to position the company for long-term success in the global marketplace."
The layoff announcement comes less than a month after Caterpillar acquired an $11 million federal contract that will pay the company to manufacture replacement dredging equipment for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Prior to the cuts announced Tuesday, Caterpillar implemented a series of rolling layoffs for 985 employees at its Large Engine Center, where 580 workers already are on a layoff status that is expected to last at least through November.
