Bank of America plans to lay off more than 375 workers at two Washington state locations starting in October.
The announcement was made late Friday by the Washington Employment Security Department in accordance with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act (WARN).
A Bank of America spokesman did not immediately return a phone call Friday afternoon. The company is based in Charlotte, N.C.
The layoffs will affect 255 workers at a branch at 800 Fifth Ave. in downtown Seattle and 121 workers in the 1275 George Washington Way branch in Richland.
Layoffs will begin Oct. 1, 2006, and will be carried out through Dec. 31, 2006. The Employment Security Department announcement indicated layoffs will be
permanent.
The announcement did not say whether the bank would close either office.
The WARN act is a federal law that requires employers to provide workers with at least 60 days notice for office closings or large layoffs.
